Distinguishing patients with intracranial malignancies from those with benign diseases is difficult, as the symptoms are often non-specific. This study investigates whether the detection of glial malignancies based on the enrichment and identification of circulating glial cells (CGCs) in peripheral blood is an effective strategy for the rapid and simple diagnostic stratification of such patients. Two case studies and a prospective study were carried out for this purpose. The sensitivity and specificity for the detection of malignant glial diseases and their differentiation from benign CNS diseases was 98% in both controlled case studies.
